HDI has initiated undertaking researches to develop advocacy materials to help in the policy making process, to avoid duplication in the programs. HDI has conducted researches on its own and in collaboration with NIDS board.

Recently, Dr. Rabindra Roy, The Team Leader of NIDS/HDI has completed a study 'An examination of livelihood options of the high mountain people in food security utilizing the local forest resources' in Humla.
