Remote Districts of Nepal
ICIMOD/SNV/CBSGN (2003) have ranked all 75 districts of Nepal on the basis of poverty and deprivation index, socioeconomic and infrastructural development index and women empowerment index. These indexes are based on the 29 basic indicators of the level of development performance at the district level. The Overall Composite Index indicates that Mugu, Humla and Bajhang are the country’s three least developed districts overall. The three least developed in terms of the Poverty and Deprivation Index are Mugu, Achham and Humla; in terms of the Socioeconomic and Infrastructural Development Index, they are Accham, Bajhang and Mugu; and in terms of the Women’s Empowerment Index, they are Mugu, Bajhang and Humla. In other words, only four districts appear among the three least developed in all the three indices; and all are located in the mountains and hills of the Mid-Western and Far Western Development Regions.
The Development Indicators of the districts of Nepal updated in 2003 by ICIMOD/CBS/SNV shows as follows;
